Turkey announces massive naval exercises off the Libyan coast

Via a navigational telex the Turkish navy reserves an area for military manoeuvres in the Mediterranean, off the Libyan coast, according to “Yeni Şafak” newspaper.

The exercises will take place in three different regions, named Barbaros, Turgut Reis and Çaka Bey by the Turkish army, off the Libyan coast, it said on Tuesday.

The exercises come as tensions grow in the eastern Mediterranean due to the conflict in Libya, and Turkey’s dispute with Cyprus and Greece over offshore hydrocarbon resources.

Turkish military carried out manoeuvres in the Mediterranean on June 11, with eight naval ships and 17 fighter jets participated in eight hours of exercises.
